Diwali Delights at The Helier

In keeping with the Diwali tradition of feasting and celebration, our residents were treated to a fabulous meal to mark this special Indian holiday.

30 residents gathered to meet our guest, chef and author Ashia Ismail-Singer. Ashia's own recipes were used by The Helier's chef, Charles, and his team to create a mouth-watering lunch.

The table was laid with bright flowers from our garden and was studded with gold candles and decorations.

Ashia introduced each dish and spent some time with the residents to talk about her work and her wonderful cook books.

One of our residents, who is originally from Asia, enjoyed the opportunity to talk about the traditional food from their culture and their love for spicy fare! 

The favourite course for many was dessert - a chocolate mousse that had been infused with cardomom and was described as 'truly magical.'

Another resident commented that they didn't know a lot about Diwali, but loved that we acknowledge holidays from all different cultures at The Helier. It was certainly an opportunity to learn more about the meaning and traditions behind Diwali. 

It really was a celebration enjoyed by all.
